Editor,

I wish to highlight the growing concern among aspirants regarding the recent notification issued by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) on 18 September.

The commission not only added over 300 new candidates to the zone of consideration but also fixed the mains examination for 28 September – leaving barely nine days in between. This is careless and unfair. Many candidates had been waiting for a second list, expecting that if fresh names were to be included, the exam date would be suitably adjusted. Instead, this last-minute notification has created confusion and a sense of betrayal.

Competitive examinations demand fairness and adequate preparation time. Declaring results in such haste is not only impractical but also tarnishes the image of the commission. Newly added candidates now have grounds to seek postponement, while earlier candidates are left in a limbo, fearing yet another last-minute cancellation, as has happened before. This repeated indecision is mentally exhausting and deeply discouraging for serious aspirants.

If the exam is to be rescheduled, let the commission announce it now with finality. What candidates need is clarity and certainty, not constant anxiety. At least a month’s gap between results and the mains is a basic requirement followed everywhere, and the APPSC should be no exception.

The future of hundreds of youths is at stake. The APPSC must act responsibly, end the confusion, and restore faith in the institution.
