Editor,
In the age of social media, everyone has a voice and that’s a good thing. The digital space has opened doors for ideas, movements, and discussions that would once have remained unheard. Yet, in this wave of expression, the line between informed opinion and reckless assertion is often blurred out.
Everyday posts and tweets shape public moods, influence beliefs, and sometimes ignite unnecessary outrage. People comment, share, or forward without verifying what they’re engaging with. A single unchecked claim can go viral within minutes, stirring emotions, dividing communities, and even distorting facts.
Freedom of expression is a cornerstone of democracy, but “with freedom, comes responsibility.” Before posting, it’s vital to ask: Is this true? Is it fair? Could it harm someone or mislead others? A moment of thought can prevent a storm of misinformation.
In times when social media shape collective sentiment, fact-checking isn’t just a courtesy, it’s a civic duty. Responsible voices can calm the noises, restore peace, and remind us that truth still matters in the world of endless opinions.
