SEREN, 12 Feb: A workshop on ‘Improved cultivation practice of rice’ was held at Seren village in Lower Siang district recently under ‘Project Arik Abik Lunom’, a mobile-based agro advisory service in Arunachal Pradesh.
Forty-seven farmers of the village participated in the programme, which was conducted by Pasighat-based College of Horticulture & Forestry, in collaboration with the union electronics & IT ministry’s Digital India Corporation.
The broad objective of the project is to provide right information at the right time and empower the farmers in taking informed decisions to enhance their livelihood through the mobile-based agro advisory services in local dialects.
The project is being implemented in East Siang, West Siang, Upper Siang, Lower Siang, Siang, Leparada, Lower Dibang Valley, Namsai and Shi-Yomi districts.
The programme was inaugurated by Nari EAC John Modi, m4agri-Arunachal Project PI Dr Saroj Kumar Pattanaaik, and Co-PI Dr LD Hatai.
After the inauguration of the programme, the farmers were trained on ‘improved package of practices of rice cultivation’, ‘suitable mechanization possibilities’, ‘availability of machines’, and ‘benefit of custom hiring centre’.
