KHONSA, 8 May: Fifty children from remote villages of Tirap and Longding districts participated in a six-day summer camp organised by the Khonsa battalion of the Assam Rifles (AR) at the AR headquarters here.
The children took part in activities like trekking, tent pitching, ‘run for fun’, picnic, introduction to yoga, and various adventure-filled games and competitions. They were also taken on an ‘educational-cum-sightseeing trip’ to the Digboi Oil museum, tea gardens, Lekhapani, Jairampur, and Pangsau Pass during the six-day camp.
Addressing the closing programme on Sunday, Tirap DC Taro Mize lauded the AR “for conducting the first ever summer camp in the insurgency-affected Tirap district and providing a platform to children for learning and adventure.”
The DC stated that such initiatives would go a long way in moulding the children into responsible citizens and ushering peace and prosperity in the region. (DIPRO)
