RGU workshop on herbal products
RONO HILLS, 9 May: Over 60 participants, comprising PhD scholars, teachers and master’s degree students of botany and biotechnology are participating in a three-day national workshop on ‘Pharmaceutical approach to formulation of different herbal products’, which began at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here on Monday.
During the inaugural function, RGU Vice Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha advised the PhD students and the master’s students, along with the young faculty members, to “equip themselves with relevant knowledge and skills on subject matter of medicinal plants
and pharmaceuticals, which is directly linked with utilisation of crude drug sources from natural products.”
RGU Registrar Dr NT Rikam encouraged the participants to “learn the fundamental knowledge and skills of the resource persons invited from NETES Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Guwahati.”
RGU Botany Head Prof RK Singh and Life Science Dean Prof Sumpam Tangjang also spoke.
Workshop coordinator Prof Hui Tag informed the participants that “professional experts of four subject areas, namely, taxonomy, ethnobotany, pharmacognosy, and pharmaceuticals and pharmacology are closely related to each other and they are interdependent on each other’s knowledge, methods and approaches for formulation and development of quality drugs.”
NETES Institute of Pharmaceutical Science principal Dr Bhargab Jyoti Sahariah stressed that “skill-based education is the need of the hour, while traditional medicinal knowledge is fundamental for development of quality herbal product formulation, patenting and effective marketing.”
