ITANAGAR, 17 May: Drinking water supply to various sectors and colonies in Itanagar and Naharlagun has been disrupted following damage caused to the main and several other distribution pipelines, the PHE&WS department said.
“Water supply to capital township from Poma source through the 450 mm diameter main pipeline has been disrupted since Monday night,” the PHE&WS Itanagar division EE said, adding that efforts are on to locate the point of damage and repair it.
Besides the main pipeline, several other distribution pipelines in Itanagar and Naharlagun were also damaged due to incessant rain over the past one week, the EE said.
Though repair work has been started, continuous downpour is hampering the restoration work, the EE said, and added that the department’s water tanker will be pressed into service ‘wherever possible.’
The affected sectors and colonies are Upper ESS sector, Donyi, Dokum Colony, F-Sector, F & G Sector, Doordarshan Colony, Donyi Polo School and Gohpur areas, Chandranagar, Vivek Vihar, DN College area, Bn Colony, Police Colony in Itanagar, and B-Sector, Helipad area, A sector area, Papu Hill, Pappu Nallah, Press Colony, Pachin Colony, transport GM office area, Yupia tinali, Barapani, Takar Colony in Naharlagun.
The EE appealed to the people to bear with the inconvenience caused to them.
