ITANAGAR, 13 Jun: Two persons, both relatives of the woman who was brutally attacked by her husband, Charu Tanu, in Tigdo village last Saturday, have been arrested by the police on the charge of killing Tanu in retaliation.
Papum Pare SP Neelam Nega informed that the case is still under investigation.
He informed that, prior to the incident on Saturday, an FIR with regard to physical assault had been registered at the Doimukh police station on Friday under Sections 326 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code, while Tanu had been absconding after brutally attacking his wife with a dao.
The FIR was lodged by the brother of the woman.
The relatives of the woman, and also the police, were on the lookout for Tanu. Reportedly, his wife’s relatives later found Tanu and beat him up.
When the police reached the spot, they found that Tanu was in a serious condition and his wife’s relatives had fled. The police rushed Tanu to the Doimukh CHC, from where he was referred to the TRIHMS in Naharlagun, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following this, another FIR was lodged on Saturday at the Doimukh police station under Section 302/34 of the IPC.
The SP informed that the condition of the woman is “very critical till date” and the police cannot take her statement at this stage.
He requested the people not to take the law into their hands and avoid using weapons during violence.
