TAWANG, 26 Sep: The 38th battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) celebrated its 16th raising day at its headquarters here on 26 September.
The battalion was raised in 2006, with Tsering Dirjai as its first commandant.
Local MLA Tsering Tashi, DC Kesang Ngurup Damo, SP Bomge Kamduk and State Minority Morcha president Pema Ngawang attended the raising day celebration by planting tree saplings in the battalion headquarters premises, and attending a cultural programme at the APJ Abdul Kalam Hall here.
The MLA congratulated the battalion and lauded the role being played by the SSB “in every social occasion, during disaster, and helping villagers, schools and other NGOs through its civic action programmes, besides providing security.”
Commandant GS Udawat gave assurance that the battalion would continue to “stand strongly to maintain peace and serve the country,” and lauded the people of Tawang for having cordial relations with the SSB. (DIPRO)
