ITANAGAR, Apr 25: NHM Mission Director of the State Dr. Tapasya Raghav has said that no malarial death has been reported in the State for the last couple of years and attributed it to collective efforts by the concern department, administration and other stakeholders.
“Malaria is preventable. What is required to prevent the disease is Community awareness and change in the living condition by maintaining good health and hygiene practices,” she said during the World Malaria Day celebration by Papum Pare District Health Society at Maharishi Vidya Mandir School, Emba village Doimukh.
Highlighting the importance and significance of the World Malaria day celebration, she said the day is observed across the world to recognize the global efforts to control malaria and spread awareness to bring down malaria cases.
The theme for this year’s Malaria Day celebration was “Ready to beat Malaria”.
Joint Director DHS Dr. Alok Yirang also spoke on the importance of creating awareness on malaria and its preventive measures..
DMO Dr. Tasso Kampu Subu highlighted the efforts of District Health Society to prevent malaria and other vector borne diseases. She sought support and cooperation from all to achieve the target of eliminating malaria by 2025.
To mark the day, a mass malaria awareness rally was organized, which was participated by the school children, health officers and officials of DHS and CHC Doimukh.
A Skit play was also displayed on Malaria.
Later, Raghav distributed prizes to the winners of literary activities on the theme “prevention of malaria,’ which was conducted by Malaria Department, Yupia.
The World Malaria Day was also observed today at Hayuliang.
On the occasion, Anjaw DMO said that although the annual parasitic Index of Anjaw has come down, the annual blood examination rate needs to be improved.
He opined that there is always chance of resurgence as there is heavy population movement due to road construction works.
