ITANAGAR, Aug 4: Appreciating the initiatives of the state police for identifying ILP violators in the wake of the publication of the final draft of the National Register of Citizens in Assam, the Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) has appealed to the state government to deploy adequate police force at business establishments in the twin capital towns to prevent any untoward incident in the name of ILP checking.
“There are good numbers of businessmen from states like Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, West Bengal and other South Indian states in twin capital city; they should not get any mental torture from any organisation in the name of ILP checking,” the IMWA said in a release.
It appealed to the state government to allow only magistrates and law enforcement agency like the police to carry out ILP checking in an impartial and transparent manner.
“The entire process of ILP checking should in accordance with law and laid down procedures,” the IMWA said.
Stating that the IMWA would extend cooperation to any organization that wishes to take part in ILP verification at business establishments in Itanagar and Naharlagun, the association said it would always stand for the interests of its community. It further appealed to the business community not to panic but maintain peace and tranquility and extend cooperation to law enforcing agencies during ILP verification.
“The state government is urged to not allow any organisation to harass the business community in the name of ILP checking. The government must provide all necessary help to the business community of the twin capital city and ensure that no one is allowed to take law into their hands in the name of ILP checking,” the IMWA added.
