NAMSAI, Sep 22: Stressing the importance of the farmers’-producers’ company (FPC), Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein urged the line departments, especially the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), to “work as pathfinder for all the agriculture stakeholders.”
He was addressing farmers and FPC representatives during a capacity-building programme on ‘organic production technology of seed spices for NEH’ jointly organized by the Ajmer (Rajasthan)-based ICAR-NRC on Seed Spices (NRCSS) and the Namsai KVK here on Saturday.
The DCM highlighted the agricultural scenario of the district and laid special emphasis on the prospect of cultivation of seed spices in the state. He also distributed cheques to 20 farmers of Kupatnai village.
MLA Chow T Mein, who also attended the programme, advised the farmers to adopt seed spices as a main cash crop, and to cultivate seed spices in consultation with the KVK scientists. MLA Chow Zingnu Namchoom urged the farmers to exchange traditional farming practices with scientific farming for better yields.
Namsai DC T Raghav enumerated the government schemes being implemented in the district and asked farmers and unemployed youths to avail their benefits and become entrepreneurs in agriculture and allied sectors.
NRCSS Director Dr Gopal Lal made a PowerPoint presentation on the activities taken up by the NRCSS, and explained the importance and scope of seed spices in Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in Namsai district. (PRO, DCM)
