ITANAGAR, Oct 15: In what could be termed as great relief for the Casual Paid Laborers (CPLs) working under Border Roads Organization (BRO), the BRO has revoked its earlier order discharging CPLs of the organization, who have crossed 50 years of age.
In an order, the Director General of Border Roads (DGBR) said that CPLs should not be discharged on the ground of ‘over age’ or completing 50 years of age.
“Physical fitness and health condition to perform a specified job should be considered while engaging CPLs,” the order said.
The BRO Director General had earlier issued an order to discharge CPLs, who have crossed the age bar, stating that the age of the casual paid labourers, as per the rule, should be between 18 to 50 years.
The BRO Labourers Union had filed a writ petition at Gauhati Court challenging the order. The court had passed an interim order suspending the order.
While welcoming the decision, the BRO Labour Union hoped the Ministry of Defence would also address other genuine grievances in the days to come.
