Arunachal’s medal count soars to 55

IMPHAL, Oct 26: Arunachal Pradesh added three more gold medals on day three of the North East Olympic Games here in Manipur on Friday.
Lalu Taku and Sambo Lapung won a gold medal each in weightlifting while Madin Hina bagged the gold medal in judo.
Arunachal added a total of 31 medals on day-three, bringing the total medal count to 55 [15 gold, 9 silver, 31 bronze].
Commonwealth Youth and Junior Champion Taku clinched the gold with a total lift of 270 kg in the men’s 71 kg weight category.
He lifted 120 kg in snatch and 150 kg in clean-and-jerk.
SAF Games Champion Sambo lifted a total of 300 kg [snatch 135 kg + clean-and-jerk 165 kg] in men’s 81 kg weight category.
Ruba Tadu won a silver medal in the men’s 67 kg category. He lifted 108 kg in snatch and 138 kg in clean-and-jerk [total 245 kg].
Liza Kamsa won the silver medal in the women’s 64 kg category by lifting 60 kg in snatch and 86 kg in clean-and-jerk [total 146 kg].
PH Roshni won another silver medal for the state in the women’s 71 kg category. She lifted 77 kg in snatch and 90 kg in clean-and-jerk [total 167 kg].
Boni Mangkhiya won a bronze in women’s 59 kg category. Anai Wangsu won bronze in the in the 55 kg category.
Sorom Hitlar Tagru, one of the gold medal prospects in the men’s 89 kg category, was debarred from participation in the competition due to less bodyweight.
Judokas Dindu Chukla and Silom Tesia won a silver medal each in men’s and women’s category respectively.
Kamdon Boi, Rahul Mipi, Yari Maying, and Ehalu Tesia bagged a bronze medal each in judo.
In boxing, Muni Leya [51 kg], Posan Kongkan [54 kg], and Doi Tapoida [75 kg] won a bronze medal each in women’s section.
In the men’s section, Techi Maniya [49 kg], Kumar Beyong [52 kg], Aguk Juja [56 kg], and Biri Taro [64 kg] won a bronze medal each.
John Tagru is the only boxer from the state to reach the final.
In Taekwondo, Nabam Menia bagged a silver medal in the women’s U-49 kg Kyorugi event, while Kipa Memey bagged a bronze in the U-57 kg category in the same event.
In Wushu, Mercy Ngaimong won the bronze medal in chanquan event while Mepung Lamgu won a bronze in Tai Chi Jian.
Realu Boo won the silver medal in women’s Tai-Chi.
Other bronze medalists in Wushu in the women’s category were Onilu Tega [-48 kg], Taug Ama [-60 kg], and Chera Yagu [-65 kg].
In the men’s category, Kigo Yoka [-56 kg], and Ripaksho Chikro [-60 kg] won a bronze medal each.
Three players have assured a silver medal each as they reached the finals.
In badminton, Arunachal entered into the finals of women’s singles, women’s doubles and men’s doubles.
Laa Yajum defeated H Jyotichandra of Assam 21-9, 21-11 to reach the women’s singles final. She will play against Maheswari of Manipur in the final on Saturday.
The pair of Pinky Karki and Taring Yania defeated Hriati and Zuali of Mizoram 21-18, 21-19 to reach the women’s doubles final.
Pinky and Yania will meet Purnima and Somi Bala of Manipur in the final tomorrow.
Raja Gupta and Akshay Raito defeated Konsam Sandeep and Bidyachandra of Manipur to reach the men’s doubles final.
In the men’s singles, Sonam Tamang lost 21-1 and 21-18 to Bidyasagar Salam of Manipur and settled for the bronze medal.
In mixed doubles, the pair of Tania Yasap and Rahul Thapa went down fighting 21-18, 21-19 to their opponents from Mizoram and settled for the bronze.
Achik Wangsa won a bronze medal in javelin throw.
Arunachal’s men’s and women’s football teams lost their opening matches against Assam and Meghalaya respectively.
The men’s team lost 2-3 to Assam while the women’s team was defeated by Meghalaya 3-1.
