ITANAGAR, Oct 29: In a complaint letter to the Papum Pare deputy commissioner, the Pro-Dam Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (PDMAP) on Monday alleged that the NEEPCO’s 110 mw hydroelectric project (HEP) in Sopo in Papum Pare district was commissioned 21 May “without fully completing the work,” and demanded an inquiry into the matter.
“The project is incomplete and the work at some portions is still incomplete. There is no security system in the project location, while the tunnel has leakage at one location. Further, there is no provision for the protection of wildlife and humans at both upstream and downstream banks of the river and there is no alarm system installed to alert people living downstream,” the PDMAP claimed.
It also sought action against the Pare HEP’s head of project for commissioning the project without completing the work, which it said might lead to a fatal incident in the future.
The group threatened to resort to democratic action if its demand is not met within 15 days.
