ITANAGAR, Dec 8: An army jawan was killed and three other jawans suffered injuries in a firefight between suspected Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (Issac-Muivah) cadre and the Indian Army in Longding district on early Saturday morning.
The martyred jawan has been identified as Lance Naik Sukhchain Singh of the 19th Sikh Regiment.
Longding Superintendent of Police Rohit Meena confirmed the report and informed that the incident took place between Longsom and Wanu villages at around 6 am.
The SP further informed that the injured personnel have been shifted to the military hospital in Dinjan, Assam.
No casualty among the NSCN cadre was reported. The army is conducting a combing operation in the area.
An alleged hardcore operative of the NSCN (IM) was killed in an encounter with security forces in Longding district on Thursday morning during an operation carried out by the Khonsa battalion of the Assam Rifles near Longkai village.
The operative was identified as a ‘captain’ of the NSCN (IM).
Two AK-56 rifles and a large quantity of ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter.
