TEZU, Feb 28: The science club of Indira Gandhi Government College (IGGC) here in Lohit district celebrated National Science Day on Thursday.
The day is celebrated to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by the great Indian scientist, Sir CV Raman.
It also seeks to promote scientific temper.
Seventy-eight students and 13 faculty members of the college participated in the celebration here.
The programme featured PowerPoint presentations and making posters and working models highlighting the day’s theme, ‘Science for the people and the people for science’.
Physics Assistant Professor Nani Munya presented a brief on the Raman Effect, which was discovered by CV Raman on 28 February, 1928. For this, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.
IGGC Principal Dr Kangki Megu urged the participants to “spread the message of the importance of science and its application in the daily life of people, which is necessary to accelerate the pace of the development.”
The programme concluded with a plantation programme in the college’s new academic building.
The VKV in Kurung Kumey HQ Koloriang also celebrated National Science Day on Thursday.
The school’s science teacher, Leela Chetry, highlighted the life and contributions of CV Raman in the field of science and technology, and urged the students to develop scientific temperament and use the benefits of science in their everyday life.
Apart from display of science models by the students, a quiz competition on general science was organized as part of the celebration.
