NAHARLAGUN, Jun 26: Capital Complex District Transport Officer (DTO) Chakfa Wangsu has advised maxicab drivers to be well-versed with the traffic rules and follow them in letter and spirit.
Addressing a meeting of the City Service Maxicab Association here on Wednesday, Wangsu said, “Road transportation is one of the vital links that facilitates productivity, which in turn leads to rapid economic development of a state and country.”
Describing well-trained professional drivers as “the backbone of every supply chain,” he said it is the duty of drivers “to be professional, follow traffic rules at all times, and make people aware of the same.”
Acknowledging the efforts of Capital SP Tumme Amo to deal with traffic congestion in the capital complex, Wangsu urged the public to “cooperate with the administrators for better results.”
The DTO also stressed on creating more parking lots in the capital complex, saying doing so would help in reducing traffic congestion to a large extent. He also requested motorists to make use of the existing parking areas.
Wangsu said steps would soon be initiated to regulate the rates of commercial vehicles, as demanded by the All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF).
AAPPTF president Dobing Sonam in his address advised the maxicab drivers to drive safely and be aware of the traffic rules to ensure the safety of the passengers.
Sonam said the AAPPTF would soon submit a memorandum to the chief minister for creation of a labour welfare-like board for the members of the transport federation, “so that several aspects with regard to their and their families’ health, their children’s education, etc, are secured.”
