ZIRO, Oct 30: The Team Environment Protection Committee (EPC), Apatani suggested raising a statue of veteran journalist and social worker Taro Chatung here in Lower Subansiri district.
In a representation submitted to the Lower Subansiri deputy commissioner on Wednesday, the Team EPC highlighted the contributions of Chatung and sought permission to erect a statue of the first journalist of the state.
“His contribution to society was incomparable…his absence is great loss for the Tanii and Arunachal Pradesh. We want to let his ideology and principle to be alive in our heart with the statue, which will serve as encouragement and motivation for upcoming youths.
The first journalist of Arunachal, Chatung breathed his last on 26 October. He had been diagnosed with cancer, and lost the battle at around 10.30 AM on Saturday at the TRIHMS in Naharlagun.
His mortal remains were laid to rest at his native village, Kudumbarang, Hija, in Lower Subansiri district, on 28 October, with people from all walks of life turning up to pay their last respects to the beloved son of Ziro.
He was 56, and is survived by his wife, three sons, and a daughter.
