NAHALAGUN, Jan 23: The project for one-time screening of sickle cell trait, thalessemia /hemophilia in school children was launched by the State Blood Cell (SBC), NHM, GoAP at Good Shepherd School here on Thursday.
Approximately 10,000 children are expected to be screened in this pilot project covering Papum Pare and Lower Subansiri districts.
SBC Nodal Officer Dr Nabam Budh highlighted blood disorders like thalessemia and hemophilia, which he said, are on the rise in the state.
Dr Budh informed that the TRIHMS and the Bakin Pertin General Hospital in Pasighat are “well equipped with world-class testing and conformation equipments, such as fully automatic coagulation analyzer for hemophilia and fully automatic high performance Liquid chromography for thalessemia testing.”
Interacting with school authorities SBC State Coordination Officer Chongneithem Lhouvum urged them to create awareness about such disorders and avail services provided by the department.
