SILUK, Feb 6: The Swachh Siluk Abhiyan, in collaboration with the Lukne Village Organization, organised a daylong event here in East Siang district on Thursday to improve the village’s cleanliness.
Siluk was recently declared the cleanest village of the district. The programme was held to further improve the cleanliness, green cover and sustainable livelihood of the locals.
Mebo MLA Lombo Tayeng, who along with East Siang DC Kinny Singh attended the event, said “the people of Siluk have brought drastic change to their area by successfully implementing the Swachch Bharat Mission during the last few months.”
He urged the villagers to “continue the trend and work harder to attain the status of the cleanest village in the entire state in the coming days.”
The MLA also urged the villagers to “maintain unity and change their mindset to bring a silent revolution.” He advised the youths and the women to take part in skill development training to create self-employment avenues through the tourism sector.
“The traditional practices and food habits and homestay hospitality of the local tribals attract different Indian communities. Moreover, the area, endowed with natural bounty, has rich potential for development of tourism,” Tayeng said.
Responding to a memorandum submitted by the villagers, he assured to take steps for construction of a shed to confine stray cattle, and for laying a drain for rainwater disposal in the village.
The DC on her part assured to provide all logistic support to boost cleanliness in Siluk, besides developing the road and the school infrastructure here.
