ITANAGAR, Oct 16: Secretary, Dept. of Social Justice & Empowerment & Tribal Affairs, Onit Panyang has flagged off a bus for the Donyi Polo School for Hearing and Visually Impaired here on Oct 15 on the occasion of the 26th Foundation Day of the school.
The Bus is sponsored by the Dept of SJETA, Naharlagun as per the promise made by the Chief Minister Pema Khandu during his visit to school.
Onit Panyang hoped that institution will be able to provide better transportation facilities to the differently abled children with the help of the newly acquired bus.
He lauded the role of former Chief Minister Gegong Apang in establishing the school for the differently-abled children of the state and for providing educational and vocational rehabilitation.
He however felt the need for provision of rehabilitation services to children with other disabilities.
Panyang also underscored the need to provide job opportunities to differently abled students as per reservation provided under Disability Act.
Director of SJETA Yumlam Kaha assured all possible help for up gradation of the school as passed out students have to go to Guwahati & Shillong for higher study. Many poor students who can’t go outside the state discontinue their studies.
Kaha stated that the Dept. has assisted the school in developing various Teaching Learning Materials as well as provision of Group Hearing Aids, Audiometres speech Trainer, Braille Type Writer, Braille Scanner which will the make learning process easier for the students.
He stated that enhancement of Corpus Fund by Rs 2 crore during 2016-17 in addition to the previous corpus of Rs 5 crore has strengthened the service quality.
