APSCPCR decries teachers and violent parents
ITANAGAR, Nov 30: The Department of Education has ordered suspension of Nabam Janu, one of the teachers of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Sagalee, who allegedly stripped naked 14 students and partly unclothed remaining 74 students on November 23.
Assistant Teachers Thinley Wangmu Thongdok and Sangeeta Khalkho, who according to Education Department were appointed by the NGO running the school without the approval of the government have been directed to be terminated immediately.
The Secretary Education has already constituted an enquiry through the Deputy Commissioner, Yupia and a report is expected within one week.
The State Project Director, SSA has also deputed two officials from Itanagar to Sagalee to enquire into the allegations.
The KGBV school at Tani Happa, Sagalee is currently run by a local NGO named Arunachal Farmers Development Society.
Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) after a fact-finding visit to the school said that even though the three teachers were wrong in dealing with the students and they deserved to be punished as per the law, the parents’ role in the incident too is condemnable for the fact that they took the law on their hands and beat up the teachers.
The team led by APSCPCR cum Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) Chairperson, Mitali Tingkhatra while denouncing the entire episode and corporal punishment in the schools urged the OC, Women Police Station, Itanagar to enquire on the whole episode appropriately, so the justice is given to the aggrieved.
The team visited the school and spoke to the students, the warden, the school teachers and the principal for thorough enquiry of the incident.
The students had further informed their parents of such punishments, who in turn became violent and assaulted the teachers-Thinley Wangmu Thongdok, Sangeeta Khalkho and Nabam Janu.
