SDHDC demands notification of Siang HQ

ITANAGAR, Dec 13: The Boleng-based Siang District Headquarter Demand Committee (SDHDC) has appealed to the state government to notify the permanent headquarters of Siang district as per the recommendation of the high-level expert committee.
In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday, the SDHDC said ‘the name and fame of Power Minister Tamiyo Taga were maligned and defamed during a recent agitation by a few sections of Siang people at Pangin.’
It said it was also unfortunate that the protestors even carried out the rituals of curse and sorcery against Taga and his family ‘without any valid reason, just in assumption that Taga was trying to shift the headquarters from Pangin.’
The SDHDC said Taga has nothing to do with the headquarters issue, but that ‘it is the voice and demand of the larger public of Siang district to shift the headquarters to Boleng, which is more feasible and administratively convenient as verified and recommended by two previous committees, namely the Siang District Headquarter Selection Committee and the Siang District Re-Organization Intellectual Forum.’
Nonetheless, the memorandum further said, ‘in adherence to the direction of the Gauhati High Court, the government has constituted a high-level expert committee Vide Memo No DAD-11/2001 (Pt), dated Itanagar 16, December, 2016, to verify the claims and counter claims of two sets of people from Pangin and Boleng area. The SDHDC believes that the government will take a just decision in the larger interest of the public of Siang district based upon the committee’s report.’
