LIKABALI, Dec 23: The Ecology and Wildlife Biology unit of the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) organized a wildlife awareness programme for the students of the government upper primary school in Silli village here in Lower Siang district recently.
Talo Biju, a research scholar of the RGU’s Zoology department, spoke about the critically endangered birds found in the state and their importance.
“Lack of awareness and anthropogenic factors such as habitat destruction are some of the main reasons behind the disappearance of vultures and avifauna in the region,” he said.
Stressing on conservation of wildlife, another resource person, Ripin Taba, said “every organism plays an important role in maintaining the ecological balance in order to maintain the food chain in our ecosystem. Apart from that, the presence of wildlife also promotes ecotourism for the state.”
Silli ASM Tape Zirdo and teacher-in-charge Hentu Tassar also spoke.
