TIPI, Jan 17: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Dr BD Mishra visited the Orchid Research Centre here in West Kameng district on Wednesday.
Accompanied by his wife Neelam Mishra, the governor visited the orchid glass house, species house, orchid museum, tissue culture laboratory and orchid herbarium, and was briefed about the centre by an official of the Orchid Research Centre, N Nyorak.
Interacting with the officials and scientists, the governor advised them to promote and propagate the new techniques in orchid farming and help the people and promote it, if feasible, on commercial scale to help the flower growers to enhance their income.
Exhorting the officials to be proactive and result orientated in their approach to realize the objective of the research centre, the governor asked them to impart training to the villagers on orchid propagation.
He emphasized that the technologies must be perfected to suit the local cultivation and wider market demands.
‘The research successes in this field must be transferred from the laboratory to the field, as promptly as possible’, he suggested.
Chief Conservator of Forest cum Director of Orchid Research Centre Dusu Sera and other forest officials were present on the occasion. (PRO to Gov)
