District crime control and civil policing committee to check on security measures

PASIGHAT, Feb 25: East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak held a coordination meeting here on 19 February, wherein it was decided to form a ‘district crime control and civil policing committee’.
Formed to intensify checks on Inner Line Permits (ILPs) and other security measures, the committee would consist of the deputy commissioner as chairman, with the EAC (Judicial) as the member secretary.
Several other police and administrative officials, including members of various organisations would act as members of the committee.
During the meeting, the DC also informed that CCTVs shall be installed at strategic locations in the township soon after it is approved by the government, and that students’ unions would be allowed to monitor issuance of bogus ILPs at ILP check gates in the district under the guidance of the SP or EAC (Judicial).
The committee would also make a strategy to launch drives on ILP, motor vehicle theft and drug trafficking.
Further, Mebo ADC in-charge Sangeeta Yirang informed the house that many ILP violators were detected and action was initiated during recent checks at Mebo subdivision.
SP Prashant Gautam informed that the process of shifting the police check gate from 2 Mile to 7 Mile area is also under progress and ILP checks would be intensified in areas bordering Assam.
Earlier this month, the Students’ United Movement of All Arunachal-East Siang District (SUMAA-ESD), led by its president Zingge Moyong had submitted a memorandum to the DC regarding extensive checks on ILPs and other security measures.
Meanwhile, the SUMAA-ESD president in a release on Sunday said that it would strictly follow up the file process of CCTV installation and creation of new check gate for ILP checks.
