APCC to gherao SBI in protest against cash crisis

ITANAGAR, Apr 18: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and its frontal wings have decided to gherao and hold demonstrations in front of the State Bank of India (SBI) at VIP Road here, at Naharlagun and in all ATMs from 9 am to 12 noon on April 20 to protest against cash crisis across Arunachal Pradesh.
The APCC has appealed to people from all walks of life to join its first phase demonstration and gherao programme, adding that its second phase of gherao will be staged near the Civil Secretariat here.
‘The present crash crisis is the result of the demonetization move by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his BJP Government. After demonetization, Arunachal Pradesh is also facing shortage of cash in the capital as well as in all districts,’ APCC president Takam Sanjoy said in a release.
The release further said that the govt has failed to liaise with the RBI and Central government in resolving the cash shortage problem.
‘Modi and the state government have failed to bring any financial packages to the state, and as a result, the state government is misusing the bank cash deposit received from the customers and spending at their whim’, the APCC claimed.
In a separate press release, APCC vice president Minkir Lollen said that the ‘APCC wants an explanation from the ruling BJP government in the state and the centre on the cash shortage in SBI and other semi-government and private sector banks’.
Demanding white paper on the present financial situation and demonetization move of the government, Lollen further said that both Modi and Pema Khandu should step down ‘for their total failure in all fronts.’
