Coop unions’ role, activities discussed

AALO, Apr 19: Matters related to the role and development of cooperative societies were discussed during a members’ education programme (MEP) conducted here by the West Siang District Cooperative Union on Wednesday.
Members of cooperative unions from West Siang, Siang and Lower Siang districts attended the programme, which was organized in collaboration with the State Cooperative Union and Guwahati-based Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM).
Addressing the participants, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Kenbi Riba spoke on the significance and role of cooperative movements in various parts of the nation and the state, and exhorted the unions to intensify their activities “as means to self sustenance and employment avenues.”
Dr Rangamlian from the ICM spoke on the role of cooperative societies and its socioeconomic impact.
Resource persons from various departments, along with Industries Deputy Director M Loya, ADO J Yomcha and SVO Dr Kejom Padu offered inputs on how cooperative societies can take up activities linked to their departments to earn livelihoods. (DIPRO)
