Lack of quality roads responsible for varying commodity prices: Justice Sharma

ITANAGAR, Apr 23: President in charge of the Consumer Dispute Commission for Northeast, Justice HN Sharma said that the difference in commodity prices vary in each district of the state due to lack of quality roads.
Speaking at the second induction programme of the Consumer Right Organization-Arunachal Pradesh (CRO-AP) in a city hotel here on Monday,
Justice Sharma said bad road communication makesit difficult to get any commodity at the fixed maximum retail price, but said it is the duty of the CRO-AP to create awareness among vendors and consumers about their rights.
Speaking as a resource person, PLO to chief minister, Techi Nera asked the CRO-AP to act on the general issues faced by consumers. He expressed hope that with the coming of the organization, problems of complainants would be looked into seriously.
Legal Metrology Registrar Marbom Doro said it is a difficult task for the department to cover the awareness aspect on its own as the department lacks manpower.
He expressed hope that organizations such the CRO-AP would help the society and the department to disseminate consumer awareness, and sought the participation of the public.
“Let us not blame the department alone. While the public is not always aware of its rights, most people are plain ignorant,” said CRO state president Achung Bagang. He also highlighted the Consumer Rights Act, 1986.
