NRC process in Assam hits construction projects in Arunachal

RUKSIN, Apr 23: The ongoing process of updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam has reportedly hampered various ongoing construction work in various districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
The contractors have lamented that more than 2000 labourers who were engaged in construction activities in East Siang are rushing back to their native places in Assam to ensure their names are in the NRC list.
The labourers are rushing back to their native places to attend hearings as the NRC officials were not satisfied with their legacy data and other supporting documents produced to establish their Indian nationality.
According to a report, more than 90 schemes of road development, building construction, PMGSY road, drainage and river bundh, etc, implemented under the PWD, the RWD and the rural development department in East Siang and West Siang districtshave been badly affected due to shortage of labourers.
If the situation continues, it is feared the ongoing construction works will fail to meet the completion date.
The departmental engineers who have been monitoring the progress of the ongoing schemes are insisting on timely completion of the schemes.
