Earth Day observed

DOIMUKH, Apr 24: A workshop on the theme ‘Save Earth, save life’ was organized by the NSS unit of the government college here on 22 April to observe Earth Day.
UD Minister Nabam Rebia, who attended the programme, lauded the college for observing the event, and said, “This will certainly create awareness and sensitize students on being more environment and eco-friendly.”
Responding to the request of the college’s principal about strengthening the college’s infrastructure, Rebia asked Education Secretary Madhu Rani Teotia to provide funds for an additional bus and a multipurpose hall, and for other urgent needs of the college.
Teotia spoke on the importance of preserving the environment, and encouraged educating the younger generation through good habits and actions.
She also declared the college a ‘polythene-free zone’.
The college’s principal, Dr MQ Khan also stressed on the immediate need to save Earth in order to save life and the future generation.
“Earth is the only planet which contains basic natural resources essential for life, such as oxygen, water and air. It is our moral responsibility to save Earth from all sorts of pollution and contamination for healthy living of all beings,” he said.
He also emphasized the need to “reduce, reuse and recycle” and to say no to polythene materials.
The workshop was followed by a mass plantation programme.
