SBIHM holds education conclave

KOLKATA, May 8: The Subhas Bose Institute of Hotel Management (SBIHM) initiated and education conclave at the heart of the city on challenges in primary, secondary and professional education recently.
Inaugurating the conclave, former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee spoke on the importance of research.
He said that the USA and China invest in the field of research, while India is lacking in this part. There are 4232 researchers per 10 lakh people in USA and 1177 researchers per 10 lakh persons in China. In India, there are merely 216 researchers for the same.
Former principal of Presidency College, Professor Amal Mukhopaddhyay highlighted problems in the education system and said that the major problem was connectivity of primary to secondary and secondary to higher education, and called for bridging the gap.
The participating students of various institutions and academicians across the eastern part of India also took active participated in the sessions.
Other delegates present were Prof Saikat Mitra Vice-Chancellor, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, Dr Basab Chowdhury Vice-Chancellor West Bengal State University, besides other academicians.
