KOHIMA, May 30: Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited the forward posts of the Assam Rifles (AR) along the Indo-Myanmar border on Wednesday, where she was briefed about border management operations.
During the visit, the defence minister undertook a detailed assessment of the border guarding operations undertaken by the Spear Corps, informed Kohima-based Defence PRO Col C Konwer.
She also interacted with the local state government functionaries and representatives of other security agencies. She also met the local community leaders and appreciated their cooperation in maintaining security in the area.
Having made a comprehensive assessment of the situation, the defence minister expressed satisfaction at the high standards of professionalism and dedication displayed by the units and formations of the Spear Corps responsible for operations along the Indo-Myanmar border, the PRO said.
Sitharaman, who arrived in Nagaland on Tuesday on a two-day visit, was scheduled to return to New Delhi later in the day.
Sitharaman was accompanied by Spear Corps GOC Lt Gen Gopal R.
