NEW DELHI, Jun 5: Arunachal Pradesh Governor BD Mishra on Tuesday advocated organizing special programmes to spread the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
Participating in a discussion on how to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, during the fifth and concluding session of the governors’ conference here, Mishra said special programmes should be organized to spread the ideals of Gandhi, as well as to inculcate the Gandhian spirit among the youths and students in order make them true ambassadors of the Gandhian philosophy.
“In addition, quiz, drama, essay, debate, painting competitions, workshops, seminars, and symposiums should be conducted at various levels and the winners awarded,” the governor said.
“To commemorate the special occasion, more villages should be adopted under the ‘150 Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti Adarsh Gram Yojana’, in line with Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana,” he added.
In order to carry forward Gandhi’s ideas in education, a special programme titled ‘Mahatma Gandhi shiksha sashakta abhiyan’ be launched to expand access to high quality and early-childhood education, Mishra said.
He also suggested conducting special commemoration programmes aimed at protecting human rights, literacy and microfinance “on a mission mode, in order to restore the high status of Indian women.”
Earlier in the sessions, presentations on Gram Swaraj Abhiyan and Swachhata youth internship were made by the secretaries to Government of India.
The concluding session was addressed by President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. (PRO to Raj Bhavan)
