BCT road closed till 24 June

BOMDILA, Jun 18: The Balipara-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) road is blocked following massive landslides that occurred at multiple locations along the route since 14 June.
The road is considered to be a lifeline for the people of East Kameng, West Kameng and Tawang districts.
The magnitude of the landslides and their occurrence at multiple locations had earlier forced the West Kameng district administration to issue a prohibitory order calling for total closure of the road to all vehicular traffic from 15-17 June.
However, after receiving reports of massive fresh landslides, especially near Sessa, on Monday morning, the DC ordered complete shutdown of the BCT road from 18-24 June as the present weather and road conditions may pose a threat to the life and safety of commuters.
The deputy commissioners of East Kameng, Tawang and Sonitpur (Assam) districts have been apprised of the situation, and the 14 BRTF CO has been directed to ensure restoration of the road “on utmost priority.”
Official sources have confirmed that though there is sufficient stock of food grains, LPG is in low supply in West Kameng. The lone petrol depot in district headquarters Bomdila has downed its shutter for the time being but is expecting replenishment of POL items in a day or two.
The administration has advised that people intending to travel to West Kameng and Tawang can opt for the Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tenga (OKSRT) road. (DIPRO)
