Bankers asked to be proactive in implementing govt schemes

NAMSAI, Jun 22: The general manager of SBI, Guwahati Ajay Kr Singh asked the bankers to be proactive in implementing government sponsored schemes.
Singh here on Friday held a detailed discussion on the financial inclusion and credit to farmers with all the bankers, district administration and officers of Agriculture and allied departments and nodal officers of the extended Gram Swaraj Abhiyan.
He informed that the matter of allowing government transaction at SBI Namsai and providing more ATMs and CSPs would be taken up on priority.
He directed all the bankers to ensure achieving 100% targets given in Extended Gram Swaraj Abhiyan and to make available adequate quantity of forms etc. He told the bankers that they should reach out to people rather people reaching out to them.
The SBI GM also assured to address the various issues raised by various participants.
Deputy Commissioner RKSharmaelaborated the status of the district in financial inclusion and social security sectors highlighting the various impediments in achieving the target of transforming Namsai district at par with the best performing district of the country.
He specially mentioned the inadequate staff in the banks across the state and informed the GM that the issue was also raised during the discussion of Annual development agenda and direction of the Chief Secretary to convey the issue to him.
The Deputy Commissioner was categorical in emphasizing enhancing the CDR and primary lending in agriculture and allied sector without which doubling the farmers income by 2022 will remain a distance dream.
The GM was also informed about difficulties being faced by Govt Departments in transacting daily business at SBI Chowkham due to lack of government transaction facilities at SBI Namsai.
Dr K Sarmah-DVO/DPO highlighted the various central and state government schemes of importance that are not being taken up seriously by banks in the district.
On the occasion 25 beneficiaries under DDU-Bunkar Yojna were handed over the loan sanction orders issued by the SBI Namsai.
The meeting was also attended by Regional Manager and other officers of the SBI, the Namsai ADC, all the administrative officers, departmental heads, PC-KVK, representatives of NRLM, DDM, NABARD and Managers of various banks of the district.
