Disaster preparedness assessed

TAWANG, Jul 9: Issues like storing essential commodities and life saving medicines, departmental contingency plans, evacuation plan, etc, were discussed during a meeting held here on Monday to take stock of the district’s disaster preparedness.
Chaired by ADC Lobsang Tsering, the meeting also identified buildings to be used as temporary shelters in case of any eventuality, and listed out the roles and responsibilities of the officers concerned.
Recalling past incidences of flashflood and landslides that had resulted in loss of lives and properties, Tsering advised the officers to be on alert, particularly during the monsoon.
SP Sagar Singh Khalsi stressed on creating awareness about precautionary measures against natural calamities and manmade mishaps by conducting mock drills and capacity building programmes, displaying signboards at vulnerable areas, using the social media, etc.
Major Shekhawat of the 190 Mountain Brigade highlighted “the importance of communication during emergencies through exchange of representatives.”
Heads of departments and representatives of the Army and the SSB participated in the meeting. (DIPRO)
