Citizens seek repair of Namsai-Deban road

NAMSAI, Aug 19: The poor condition of the 74 km Namsai-Deban road has made life miserable for the people of Namsai and Changlang districts who use the road.
Several public representations demanding renovation of the road were placed before successive state governments in the past, but the road has never been repaired.
Fed up with the longstanding problem, the public leaders and gaon burahs residing along the road wrote to Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on 14 August, saying the worsening condition of the road was because of the PWDs’ failure to renovate or maintain it.
The letter claimed that several lives were lost as people in medical emergencies could not reach their destinations on time because of the condition of the road.
The region through which the road passes is known for huge tourism potential, including surplus production of agriculture and horticulture products, but unfortunately, the pathetic condition of the road has deprived the people of the potential benefits, the letter added.
The citizens appealed to the DCM to sanction fund, under any head, at the earliest for renovation and widening of the road.
