Traffic cop in viral video suspended

ITANAGAR, Aug 19: The police department has taken action over the video circulating on social media, showing a senior traffic constable taking what is suspected to be bribe from a driver.
Taking serious note of the incident, the department has placed the constable under suspension.
Superintendent of Police M Harsha Vardhan informed that the constable has been identified and has been placed under suspension. A departmental inquiry has also been initiated against him.
“For a fair inquiry, a suspension and departmental inquiry has been initiated,” the SP said.
Reportedly, the constable claimed that a challan (ticket) was issued for the cash that he received. The SP said the claim would be verified during departmental inquiry.
“His action should be seen as an exception and should not be used as a pretext to smear the hard work done by traffic police personnel and traffic wardens every day, even in adverse conditions,” the SP added.
A video has been circulating on social media, in which the constable is seen engaging in a brief conversation with the driver of a commercial vehicle. The constable makes a call, asking for the challan book, but immediately pockets the cash offered by the driver, and the driver is handed his documents back without any receipt or challan from the constable.
