APFC accused of violating norms

ITANAGAR, Sep 27: Alleging that the Arunachal Pradesh Forest Corporation (APFC) gave timber supply orders to private suppliers from outside the state by violating the laid down norms, the Arunachal Pradesh Youth Brigade (APYB) has urged the corporation to conduct within a week a thorough inquiry against the officials involved.
The group said the APFC gave timber supply order to the Uttar Pradesh public works department, depriving the local people involved in the timber business.
“After the 1996 Supreme Court’s order almost all the timber business in Arunachal has come to a screeching halt while the APFC had become defunct. But the supply of Rs 8,900 lakhs could have given a respite to local small timber merchants. However, the APFC had given supply orders to two firms from outside the state without adopting proper tender process in violation of the laid down rules,” the APYB claimed.
