Two arrested for tampering with energy meters

ITANAGAR, Sep 27: Two electricians have been arrested by the police here for tampering with and bypassing a large number of energy meters in Chimpu area.
The duo, identified as G Anurag, an electrician in the water resource department, and Liladhar Padu, a private electrician, was arrested following an FIR lodged by Capital Electrical Division Executive Engineer Joram Lali, accusing them of illegally tampering with and bypassing prepaid energy meters, and giving illegal connections in Chimpu area.
The FIR was based on a report prepared by the electrical department’s AE and JE posted in Chimpu.
It stated that Anurag was caught red-handed carrying out illegal activities, starting from his bachelor’s barracks in the WRD complex in Chimpu. “He has also tampered with prepaid energy meters of residents of Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy in Chimpu,” it said, adding that he was instrumental in providing illegal connections in and around the WRD complex and in many locations in Chimpu area.
The FIR said Padu was a close accomplice of G Anurag “and both have been carrying out the illegal activities, causing damages to the electrical systems, inconvenience to the other consumers, and untold difficulties and miseries to the officers and officials of the department of power while discharging public service.”
The EE claimed that the duo’s illegal activities resulted in leakage of huge revenue from the state exchequer. The department has sought stringent action against the duo as per the provisions of the law.
Speaking to this daily, Itanagar police station OC T Bage informed that a case has been registered against the two men.
