CHESSA, Oct 29: Chief Secretary Satya Gopal and PCCF RK Singh along with staffers of the State Forest Research Institute and the Banderdewa forest division visited the Van Vigyan Kendra (VVK) here in Papum Pare district on Monday.
Gopal commended the department concerned for properly managing the centre, and also gave the green signal for establishing a nature learning centre under the National Mission on Himalayan Studies of the union environment, forests & climate change ministry.
The VVK is a research centre with a well-established nursery for all important timber species, medicinal plants, and other aromatic plants. The centre has 16 greenhouses stocked with native orchids and other rare and endangered plants.
The VVK is also famous for its ‘Bambusetum’, which houses 54 species of bamboo of indigenous origin found in the tropical belt of the state.
