State observes ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’

Governor urges youths to keep nation’s unity intact

ITANAGAR, Oct 31: Arunachal Pradesh observed the ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ commemorating the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
‘Run for Unity’, programme to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel was organized in various districts, and Chief Minister Pema Khandu also took part in it.
Participating in the programme here, Governor BD Mishra urged the people to work for the unity and integrity of the country as a tribute to Patel, hailed as the ‘Ironman of India’.
He called upon the younger generation to keep the nation’s unity intact as inherited.
The governor also flagged off the 11-km mini marathon ‘Run for Unity’ from the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun, organised by the state Sports and Youth Affairs department.
The governor administered the ‘Rashtriya Eta Diwas’ pledge to the participants and expressed confidence that observing the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel will strengthen the spirit of cooperation, peace and amity in the state and the nation.
Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony after culmination of the mini marathon at Indira Gandhi Park here, the governor recalled the contributions of Sardar Patel in uniting 562 princely states with the Indian Union.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu took part in the ‘Run for Unity’ in Tawang district.
The chief minister also flagged off the race for women’s and veteran’s category while taking part himself in the men’s category.
The race was also held for the boys’ and girls’ categories.
The five-km marathon race started from the Tawang Monastery and culminated at the Tawang War Memorial.
The Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was also observed across the state by paying floral tributes to the portrait of Sardar Patel and organizing the ‘Run for Unity’ event.
Reports of observing the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas have been received from Pasighat (East Siang), Aalo (West Siang), Pangin (Siang), Changlang (Changlang), Ziro (Lower Subansiri), Anini (Dibang Valley), Roing (Lower Dibang Valley), Tezu (Lohit), Longding (Longding), Khonsa (Tirap).
The day was also observed at the Civil Secretariat here.
Chief Secretary Satya Gopal administered unity pledge to all officers and officials of the Civil Secretariat to maintain unity, integrity and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread message among fellow countrymen.
The 12th Bn NDRF based in Doimukh, Police Training Centre, Banderdewa also observed the Rasjtriya Ekta Diwas by organizing the ‘Run for Unity’ programme.
