MIAO, Feb 1: The police here in Changlang district on Friday morning destroyed swathes of illegal poppy fields in Dharmapur village.
The police team, led by SDPO Tashi Darang, included Miao PS OC Ege Ete, SI J Aran and personnel of civil police, CRPF and IRBn. The SDPO warned the villagers against indulging in illegal activities like poppy plantation and drug peddling, and sought their participation in the fight against illicit drugs.
The police team also met Gaon Burah Surujit Chakma and elders of the village, and assured them of a cordial civil-police relationship.
“The owners of the poppy fields have been summoned to the Miao PS for further action,” the SDPO informed.
This is the second instance of police destroying illegal poppy cultivation in a span of a few days.
