Road Safety Week launched

ITANAGAR, Feb 4: Capital Complex SP M Harsha Vardhan on Monday launched the 30th Road Safety Week at the Dera Natung Government College campus here, under the theme ‘Sadak suraksa – jeevan raksha’.
Vardhan said rules and regulations are framed for the wellbeing of the community and the society.
“There are several traffic rules and regulations for the safety and security of drivers, commuters and pedestrians. We need to follow these rules, otherwise the traffic personnel are there to penalize the violators,” the SP said.
He informed that a total of 30 young lives were lost during 2018 due to accidents.
The SP further said that, even with the appointment of traffic wardens, the capital police are facing a shortage of manpower to manage the ever growing traffic in the state capital.
Vardhan also appealed to the people to not shy away from helping accident victims, saying doing so does not attract any legal complicacy.
The ITBP’s frontier headquarters’ Assistant Commandant Punit Sachideva made a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the types of road accidents caused due to negligence, and played a few videos to help the youths understand the scenario better.
He informed that the Road Safety Week will continue till 10 February.
Various programmes, including road shows and street plays, will be conducted in several parts of the capital complex during the week. The programme is being organized by the ITBP in collaboration with the capital police.
