Complaint lodged over offensive tweets against Priyanka

ITANAGAR, Feb 4: The Arunachal Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (APMCC) on Monday lodged a complaint with the police regarding alleged offensive tweets against and pictures of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on the social media.
Meeting with the DGP here, members of the APMCC said that, ever since the appointment of Priyanka as the Congress’ general secretary in charge of eastern UP, “opposing forces and other fringe groups have been attempting to discredit her, and have been pursuing a coordinated smearing campaign by using distasteful, offensive and repulsive tweets/pictures.”
Terming it a “large-scale coordinated smearing campaign” by unknown persons, the APMCC said “a perusal of these tweets/pictures will disclose that the same are being deliberately circulated to diminish the credibility of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and with the mala fide intent to insult her modesty.”
Saying that the tweets and pictures in question amounted to sexual harassment, the APMCC said it was a penal offence under the Indian Penal Code 1860, and that the tweets were a serious offence under the provisions of the Information Technology Act 2000.
