PM shows keen interest in Arunachal’s loin looms

ITANAGAR, Feb 9: The loin looms of Arunachal Pradesh received a much-needed boost when Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed a set of loin looms set up in the gazebo of the front lawn of the Raj Bhavan here on Saturday.
Interacting with the weavers, the prime minister showed keen interest in the methods of operating the indigenous looms. He also enquired about the availability of threads for the looms.
The display of the indigenous loin loom sets was arranged at the initiative of Governor BD Mishra and his wife Neelam Misra.
Weaving with traditional loin looms is a skill passed down through generations among the women of Arunachal. The designs and patterns of the traditional weaving of Arunachal are unique, attractive and exclusive, and every tribe of the state has a different colour and design symbolizing their identity.
