CHF hosts Arunachal Agri Expo

PASIGHAT, Feb 25: The College of Horticulture and Forestry (CHF) here in East Siang district is hosting a three-day ‘Arunachal Agri Expo’, themed ‘Boosting farm income through smart farming’, which got underway on Monday.
Addressing the inaugural function, Imphal (Manipur)-based Central Agriculture University Vice Chancellor Prof M Premjit Singh urged the farmers to adopt integrated farming to increase their productivity and income.
He assured to extend all possible help from the university, in terms of knowledge and technical know-how, to the farmers of Arunachal Pradesh through its faculties and scientists.
Three progressive farmers from the state were facilitated on the occasion for their contribution in the field of agriculture.
ADC T Borang said there is heavy import from and dependence on neighbouring states due to the shortage of agricultural, fisheries and poultry products in the state.
“The farmers of the state need to work harder to fill the shortage as well as increase their income to further improve their living standard,” he said.
The ICAR’s Basar Centre Joint Director Dr H Kalita noted that Arunachal has a huge potential with its vast unutilized and underutilized land.
“Farmers can increase their income by reducing the inputs in production and adopting mechanization and new technologies,” he said.
