KANUBARI, Apr 10: The ADC-cum-returning officer here in Longding district, T Mize, was reportedly gheraoed by a mob of youths in a threatening manner over the installation of a polling station in Radang in Kanubari circle.
In a video which surfaced on Wednesday, the ADC is seen trying to pacify the agitated mob with folded hands. Sources informed that Radang is a disputed area and the installation
of a polling station there “without prior notification” was not welcomed by the locals.
Sources also said a large mob of unidentified men drove away polling officials from the polling station in Radang on Tuesday evening.
Reportedly, the polling station has been set up for the voters of Hasse Russa village. However, the villagers of Longhua, Mopakhat and Sangsatham contend that Radang falls under the jurisdiction of the three villages.
Earlier, on 8 April, the chiefs and gaon burahs of Longhua, Mopakhat and Sangsatham villages had in a representation to the ADC demanded cancellation of the polling station in Radang, saying the area falls under the jurisdiction of the three villages.
The Longhua Students’ Union had also written to the ADC, making the same demand.
While the ADC could not be reached due to connectivity issues, the additional chief electoral officer here informed that the state election commission has not received any report of such an incident.
He, however, said the commission has received a representation seeking cancellation of the polling station, but that officials have already been dispatched to the station.
