DC seeks submission of disaster mgmt plans

PASIGHAT, May 9: East Siang Deputy Commissioner Kinny Singh has directed the line departments to review and submit their disaster management plans at the earliest possible to update the inventory list.
During a district level pre-monsoon preparation meeting held here on Thursday amid the ongoing spell of pre-monsoon showers across the state, the DC called for adopting measures and good practices for combating disasters and future calamities.
The meeting was attended by members of the incidence response team and the district disaster management committee.
Singh also took stock of the contingency plans, available inventories, and innovative ideas during the meeting.
She instructed that regular mock drills be conducted in the township and other vulnerable areas by involving all stakeholders, in collaboration with the NDRF, “to get the system in the ready mode.”
The DC also said a dedicated 24×7 district emergency operation centre be set up, and offered suggestions regarding steps to be taken for the upcoming monsoon. She urged the members to “take advance action to tackle the upcoming monsoon.”
The DC also advocated active involvement of gaon burahs in the incidence response teams, and emphasized the need for greater coordination and cooperation between the stakeholders and non-governmental agencies to tackle disaster situations collectively.
Singh also stressed on timely issuance of notice to people living in vulnerable areas, and maintaining stocks of lifesaving drugs and food grains.
She strongly instructed the officers to be stationed at their respective places of posting “in a state of full alert to chase any disastrous situation.”
DDMO G Tsomu made a PowerPoint presentation on the action plan for the coming monsoon.
Issues such as preparation of department-wise monsoon preparedness plans, disaster relief measures, early warning systems, checking the readiness of equipment and communication systems, etc, were discussed during the meeting. (DIPRO)
